Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a list of some frequently asked questions:
Question: Why is there white splotches showing up on my soy wax melts and candles?
Answer: With soy based candles and wax melts, you will get some frosting. It doesn't affect the scent at all, only the color. If you see frosting, you know you have 100% soy wax and not the petroleum based paraffin wax.
Question: Why do some soy wax melts lose their scent after 10-12 hours while others can last 20-30?
Answer: If the wax melts have the same percentage of fragrance added, you would think they would all last the same amount of time. It actually is dependent on how hot your wax melter gets. The hotter the warmer, the farther scent throw you will get. The downside of this is that the melts do not last as long. Some wax melters come with timers and temperature controls for this reason.
Question: Can you use a soy wax melt in a Scentsy burner?
Answer: It's imperative to use a wax warmer or burner specifically designed for wax melts, because any other type of warmer can reach temperatures much higher than designed for your wax melts, and this will quickly burn out your scent.
Question: What is the difference between soy wax and paraffin wax?
Answer: Due to its crystal structure, paraffin wax has a higher melting point. This means it requires more heat to burn affecting the life of your candles. Whereas with soy wax candles the melting point is lower, allowing for a longer burn time. Soy candles have a stronger scent throw than paraffin wax candles.
Question: Is soy or paraffin wax better?
Answer: Soy wax releases less toxins. Burning or melting paraffin wax releases 11 known toxins—two of which are carcinogens—into the air. (A carcinogen is any substance or agent that promotes cancer.) Because soy wax is a biodegradable wax made from soybeans, which we eat, it does not contain these toxins and carcinogens.
